Hospitality and Technology Execs Join Fast-Growing “Workplace-as-a-Service” Platform
NEW YORK – August 24, 2017: Frits van Paasschen, former CEO of Starwood Hotels and Resorts, and Jim O’Neill, venture advisor and former CIO and CPO of HubSpot, have joined as new members of the Board of Directors at Convene.
Convene is partnering with the world’s largest commercial landlords to design and service the next-generation workplace; one that operates more like a full-service, lifestyle hotel. Through the company’s integrated “workplace-as-a-service” platform, Convene’s enterprise clients and office building tenants are offered access to a growing network of on-demand meeting, event, and flexible workspaces – all of which include Convene’s best-in-class hospitality services and curated experiences.
With the strategic support of existing global landlord partners, institutional investors, and two new Board members, Convene plans to accelerate its growth trajectory over the next few years. In addition to opening new locations, Convene will be announcing the launch of a proprietary “smart building” technology platform, which will power the tenant experience for over 50 million square feet of commercial office buildings by Q2 of 2018.
Mr. van Paasschen previously served as a top executive at Nike, Coors Brewing Company, and most recently, Starwood Hotels and Resorts. In his role as Board member, Frits will be focused on helping Convene scale globally through a brand-centric and digital-first strategy. Frits’ experience in the hospitality industry will be invaluable as the company looks to execute a more capital efficient business model.
Mr. O’Neill is currently an advisor and investor to various venture funds and technology start- ups, including HubSpot, where he spent the last two years serving as the Chief People Officer, and the prior eight as the Chief Information Officer. Mr. O’Neill will be helping Convene launch and expand its proprietary mobile software platform that will enable office building tenants easier access to premium building services and amenities.
“We are extremely fortunate to have Frits and Jim join our Board of Directors,” said Ryan Simonetti, Co-Founder and CEO of Convene. “At Convene, we’re building a global network of flexible workplaces and meeting spaces that are enabled by technology and offer experience-rich amenities for today’s global, and increasingly mobile, workforce. The support and guidance of these very accomplished leaders will be invaluable as we continue to develop our ‘workplace-as-a-service’ platform to achieve our ultimate vision of changing the way the world works.”
Convene’s proven ability to partner successfully with the world’s largest landlords puts the company in a unique position among the growing list of flexible workspace providers, currently popularized by competitors such as WeWork and other co-working giants. With over 30 percent of commercial office space expected to be consumed flexibly over the next decade, Convene is becoming the partner of choice to help the world’s largest landlords respond to the pending industry disruption. Convene recently closed its Series C and is expected to close a larger up-round later this year in preparation for its next financing round in 2018.
