Why We Always Start With Culture

“Surround yourself with those on the same mission as you.  Life’s too short to work with people you don’t like, respect, and trust.

As CEO, I often get asked “what keeps me up at night?”  The answer is always the same – my two year old and our company culture.  I’ve come to learn over the years that all “great” companies have one thing in common – a powerful corporate culture.  Thats why my primary role has been focused on building a culture that attracts, retains, and motivates our top talent. Every employee at Convene needs to feel engaged, valued, and inspired by a universal vision that speaks to a higher purpose.

I’m proud to announce that these efforts were recently recognized by Smart CEO, and we’re honored and humbled to have earned their 2016 “Top Corporate Culture Award”.  Hundreds of impressive companies from different industries across the East Coast were judged by how they foster workplaces that enhance employee engagement, and we’re incredibly excited to be part of a pool of winners that includes other industry disruptors such Peloton CycleBooker Software, and CrowdTap

At Convene, we’ve always been focused on our “Why,” centering ourselves on the core values of GRIT and our 1% better each day philosophy.  GRIT stands for being Genuine, Relentless, Integrity Based, and a Teamplayer.  It’s our “cultural” foundation and drives us to have the passion and perseverance to pursue our long-term goals.  These values have allowed us to DREAM BIG while simultaneously aligning our employees with our customers and external partners.

Happy employees have led to happy customers, as evidenced by our industry leading NPS scores.  Consistently achieving these results comes from our commitment to unleashing the potential we see in every single team member, at every level of the organization.  Our coach-centric leadership program and the belief in ‘growing from within’ has resulted in over 30 of our employees being promoted in 2016 alone.

We know that the most important question that our employees have to answer when they get home each day is “How was your day at work?”.  The response to that question drives us to think about what we can offer our people to make sure that answer is a positive one.  Our employee benefits have grown to include flexible hours, remote work schedules, free snacks, “family” meals, monthly social events, gym membership discounts, as well as access to over 60 annual training hours through various learning and development programs.

For those who haven’t heard of our “NASA” story, we often like to say we’re in the “workday improvement business”. Not only do we aim to improve the lives of our own people, but we also strive to improve the experiences of our clients and their employees.  While we’ve accomplished a lot the past 7 years, we know theres more work to be done to achieve our full vision for Convene.  I often remind our team (and myself), “Don’t stop!”, because our ultimate goal of transforming the way the world works will only be accomplished if we continue to stay true to our values and our commitment to building a world-class culture at Convene.
